JAKARTA – suksesmedia.id – In this fast-paced, digital world, it feels increasingly difficult to escape the FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out, trap. Moreover, almost every day we are exposed to social media through our gadgets. Various information comes in and out of our heads without precise filters; of course, this situation has a bad impact on the way everyone thinks and acts.
Interestingly, more and more people are trapped in the world of social media deception, which actually seems very toxic. Instead of being more productive, what happens is hours of scrolling through social media such as TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. Like an addiction, this media seems to have hypnotized many people so that they forget about real life. Not only that, the trap of the artificial world has actually made almost everyone pretend to be fine, even though they are sick. That’s right, sick in mind and information. Easily anxious, becoming aggressive, low self-control, and emotional management disorders are just a few problems due to the impact of social media, which is increasingly unstoppable. Especially for generation Z and generation Alpha, who have been technology literate since the beginning.
Unfortunately, the presence of social media with its various controversies has had a negative impact and has become an addiction for some people. Especially the lower middle class, who feel lulled by a number of impressions and information displayed through social media with such powerful and bombastic attributes. As a result, people are increasingly anxious and tend to compare themselves to others because of achievements that do not match expectations. Plus, of course, because many people feel that their lives are far from their hopes. So is the impact of this anxiety caused by social media alone?
From a psychological perspective, anxiety disorders are actually influenced by many factors. Some of these factors include genetic factors, environmental factors, inappropriate parenting patterns, past trauma, prolonged depression, and social pressure that is difficult to control because it is out of control. Not to mention an unhealthy lifestyle with consumption of instant food and fast food, which of course has a bad impact on the body’s metabolism, which is getting worse.
Social Pressure
Almost people always want to look good and cool in front of everyone. Because this is basically the nature and character of humans, who do not want to appear bad in front of others. Even everyone just wants to look perfect without any flaws. No wonder they will post everything on social media with a self-image that is always good, beautiful, handsome, prominent, and all the achievements that actually want to get validation through social media. This is what is really called social pressure and society.
However, in the midst of social pressure that is increasingly difficult to control, the family is actually the main subsystem and the safest home for people who are mentally’sick’. The interesting fact is that children who grow up in families with good and relevant parenting patterns and abundant love will grow well and completely into adulthood. They are not only physically healthy children but can also be mentally healthy children, free from anxiety disorders. More than that, children who are in a healthy environment, both physically and mentally, will support better personal and character growth.(*)
